Rollllllllllling in the deeeeeeeeee-e-ep.
That song is stuck in my head right now. I haven't even listened to it recently, but I listened to the quadratic formula parody of that song today.
Today, I had the opportunity to be inside the kitchen for my culinary team.
Usually I am on the outside managing and telling my chefs what to do, when to do it, making sure they are staying clean and on time. That's usually my job.
But today, my chef on appetizer was sick! So our coach had me step in for her. It was a lot of fun getting to cook again. I did learn some things. I got to witness what really happened when certain things didn't get done, or how long it took to do somethings. Knowing more of the ins and outs of the process and flow helped me see where things were working and where things weren't. I got to see things I wouldn't normally recognize and be in the trenches with my chefs.
As a leader, this is important. How can you help if you don't really know it all, and know how to troubleshoot from the inside? Now, I'm not saying as a leader you should be able to do everything perfectly, but it is important to know process and how things work so you can lead your team in an effective way.
For example, now I know how much the avocado should be cut so it gets all ground up, and that we have enough. I wouldn't have know this before, if I didn't actually do it.
I'm grateful that I had this opportunity to be on the inside. Not only was it fun, but I learned some things that will help bring our team greater success.
